ABOUT JESS

MOTHERHOOD & BIRTHWORK

I grew up hearing stories of my mother birthing all four of us naturally, and of my grandmother championing breastfeeding at a time that it was not the norm. When it came to my own journey into motherhood in 2011, I had an innate belief in my body and birth. My birth experience was long, hard and left me completely traumatized. And yet, my belief in how birth should be didn’t change. I remember thinking that it shouldn’t take a year to heal physically and emotionally after birth, and that the journey through labor, birth and postpartum shouldn’t feel isolated and unsupported. This was not how it was meant to be, and it could be so much better.

As I poured through research and books, I felt a calling. After years of living in the Middle East and traveling the world, we settled in Indiana and I found my way to a DONA doula training. I spent the next year home with my one year old while working my way through certification. Soon after I was taking clients, and birth after birth only reaffirmed what I had known within me, this was my calling and my heart’s work.

Since then I have supported close to 500 births and continue to serve families through my various offerings as well as assisting for homebirth midwives.

MY BIRTH STORY

After my traumatic first birth in a hospital and 2 years of experience as a birth doula, I knew that I would feel safest to birth at home. Preparing my mind, body and home for this birth was a beautiful ceremony, one that I will treasure always.

IN MY FREE TIME

You can find me on my homestead

I am a homebody through and through. I have spent the last 6 years renovating an 1800s farmhouse and cultivating the 6 acres it rests on. We have had alpacas and chickens and many barn cats. Right now we lend our fields to our neighbors sheep and grow hay. I also love to garden and have been getting the garden space up and running again after taking a break while in Midwifery school.
